Frequently Asked Questions

True Life Chiropractic – Anchorage, Alaska

Below are answers to some of the most common questions patients have about chiropractic care, massage therapy, spinal decompression, insurance, and treatment programs at True Life Chiropractic.

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?

No referral is required to see a chiropractor in most cases. However, some insurance plans or VA Community Care may require a referral or authorization before treatment. Our office can help determine what your insurance requires.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes. We are a preferred provider for several insurance companies and also work with Medicare, auto accident insurance, workers’ compensation, and VA Community Care. Our office will verify your benefits and explain coverage before treatment whenever possible.

What if I don’t have insurance?

If you do not have insurance or have limited chiropractic coverage, we offer discounted pricing through Chiropractic Health USA (CHUSA). The CHUSA membership is $49 per year and covers your entire family, allowing you to receive reduced pricing on many services.

Do you accept auto accident insurance?

We accept MedPay (Medical Payments Coverage) from auto insurance policies. If you do not have MedPay, payment is due at the time of service and we can provide documentation for you to submit to your insurance company or attorney for reimbursement.

What happens at my first visit?

Your first visit typically includes:

  • Consultation
  • Examination
  • Report of findings
  • First treatment (if appropriate)
  • Discussion of treatment plan and costs

Most first visits take about 45–60 minutes.

How many visits will I need?

The number of visits depends on your condition, how long the problem has been present, your health history, and your goals. Some patients only need a few visits, while others may benefit from a structured treatment plan.

What is spinal decompression therapy?

Spinal decompression is a non-surgical treatment that gently stretches the spine to reduce pressure on discs and nerves. It is often used for herniated discs, bulging discs, sciatica, and chronic back or neck pain.

What is the difference between massage therapy and manual therapy?

Massage therapy focuses on relaxation, muscle tension, and wellness.
Manual therapy is clinical treatment used for injury recovery, rehabilitation, and improving joint and muscle function and may be billed to insurance when medically necessary.

Can I get massage without chiropractic care?

Yes. Massage therapy can be scheduled as a standalone service or combined with chiropractic care.

Do chiropractic adjustments hurt?

Most patients find chiropractic adjustments to be comfortable and relieving. Some patients may experience mild soreness similar to starting a new exercise program, but this usually goes away quickly.

What conditions do chiropractors treat?

Chiropractic care may help with:

  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Sciatica
  • Disc injuries
  • Shoulder pain
  • Hip pain
  • Knee pain
